Is it safe to remove a home security transformer?
Our house is an 80's era house and came with security system. In my room there is a wall transformer similar to the ones you find for any other major electronic device, however, it has a screw above it that prevents it from being taken out readily. From what I've been told and what I've seen on several websites, it's a transformer for our alarm system. The system is not currently in use one of the sensors is broken but the system itself still has power going to it. I would like to remove the transformer since we don't even use the alarm. Do I need to do anything at the alarm box first or can I just remove it after I take off the screw. I just want to make sure it's safe to just remove.

I want to install a basic to intermediate wireless home security system to my condo and not sure which one to get. Basic requirements are1. at least 5 contacts to secure window door2. will notify me through phone email3. pet immune motion detector4. easy to install & expand add more accessories later 5. reliable and low maintenancePrice range is 200 300, I have no problem to go beyond that if it's worth it. So far two brand names seem to be possible candidates, Skylink Deluxe Kit and GE Simon 3, but I'm not sure I've checked the right place for info. What's the catch in a "free" home security system?
A salesman came to my door, asked if he could install a security system for free if I would allow him to place a sign for his company on my lawn. I'm obviously not going to agree, but when he comes back, I'd like some ammunition to explain why I am saying " no" . Where is he trying to make money off me? Is it a service contract for the system? Will the system malfunction and I will pay for repairs?
